Welcome to Windmill Speech & Language Therapy, providing independent Speech & Language Therapy for adults and children who stammer and their families across the UK.

I am Jenny Packer, a Speech & Language Therapist with over 20 years’ experience working with people who stammer. While I am based in Rayleigh, Essex, sessions are typically held online meaning there are no geographical restrictions to accessing support from wherever you live within the UK. If you live in South-East Essex, we can discuss the option to carry out therapy in your own home.

As with all speech therapists, I am trained to work with a wide range of communication needs, but I specialise in working with people of all ages who stammer. I see stammering as a different way of talking rather than being ‘wrong’ or ‘bad.’ I think that stammering should be accepted and understood, with the role of speech therapy being to support those who stammer to understand their natural way of talking, enabling them to be be confident and successful communicators.

Within therapy, I aim to help both adults and children who stammer and their families understand why stammering occurs, building awareness of all the individual’s strengths as a communicator, which in turn builds confidence and comfort to join in conversations. I recognise that talking is not always easy for those who stammer, so where appropriate, therapy can also include exploration of strategies that may help talking feel easier and less effortful. Where necessary, I am also happy to meet with key people around you (staff at a child’s school, or key people in the workplace) to give advice and recommendations to ensure communication is supported in all settings.

If you think this therapy approach is of interest to you, please explore the website for more information or get in touch if you’d like to chat and discuss your own or your child’s needs.
